About Common Wheel

Common Wheel supports people with mental illness by providing meaningful activities. We are based in Glasgow and have four projects: bikes, music, visual arts and climbing.

Common Wheel supports people with mental illness by providing meaningful activities (bikes, music, visual arts and climbing).

We run a Build Your Own Bike course in Maryhill and Bridgeton where participants work with our bike engineers to rebuild an old bike in to something they can literally ride away and keep.

At our music project we run participatory music activities for people with mental illness in the community, hospital wards and care homes. Our groups are suitable for all levels of musical experience and everybody gets the chance to play a variety of instruments and/or sing.

Common Wheel's visual arts group 'Carnival Club' work with a professional artist and together they design and produce pieces of visual art that are showcased at events across Glasgow.

Our newest activity climbing runs at The Climbing Academy's Prop Store in Maryhill. Participants get the chance to learn how to boulder and rope climb with the groups being led by professional instructors and supported by Common Wheel staff and volunteers.

We also have two bike workshops, in Maryhill and Bridgeton, that are open to the public for sales and repairs. Common Wheel has been providing an exceptional quality in bicycle repairs and reconditioning since 2001. Our engineers have uncompromising standards for safety and quality control, and our work is guaranteed. If you are interested in buying a reconditioned bike, would like to have your bike serviced, or would like Common Wheel to build a bike to your specification, please get in touch. You can see some examples of our work on our Bike Shops pages.

If you would like to take part in any of our activities, you need to be referred by your mental health professional or support worker. Further information can be found on our website but please get in touch if you have any questions.
