American Football

American Football is the most popular sport in the United States and has an ever increasing popularity in Scotland. This is a sport for all shapes and sizes; from 20 stone blockers to smaller quicker pass receivers.

An Overview of American Football

American Football can be referred to as Football or Gridiron and is a fast paced contact sport which is almost as enjoyable to watch as it is to play. The objective of the sport is to score more points than the opposing team. Points can be scored via a Touchdown (7 points with conversion); where you enter the opposing team's endzone via running with the ball or a pass from a teammate or a Field Goal (3 points); when the ball is kicked between the opposing teams goalposts.

In Glasgow, we are fortunate to have a fantastic club – The Glasgow Tigers. The Tigers have a full contact adult American Football team which competes in the British League. They also have an academy which plays flag football; a version of the sport that incorporates the same basics without the contact.

Flag football is a non-contact version of American football that teaches players some of the core skills and understanding that are necessary to progress to the other levels of the sport. It is also a sport in its own right and has progression routes for players to play at a UK regional and international level.

Follow our Facebook page to get information on rookie days, normally held between November and January'
