About Aegon Classic Birmingham tennis tournament
The most prestigious annual women's sports event in the region. The Aegon Classic Birmingham attracts the best women's tennis players from around the world and is played at the Edgbaston Priory Club in June each year. This year's tournament runs 17th-25th June 2017 and will feature some of the biggest names in world tennis, including GB No.1 Johanna Konta. The tournament is a fantastic opportunity for volunteers who want to be part of a major sporting event and for spectators who want to experience a taste of Wimbledon on their doorstep. The event has an illustrious history and has been won by famous tennis names like Angelique Kerber, Maria Sharapova and Billie Jean King. Marquee matches are played on the Ann Jones Centre Court, which is named after Birmingham tennis legend Ann Jones and the singles winner lifts the famous Maud Watson Trophy, which was originally the trophy lifted by the women's singles champion at Wimbledon.
